US Custom Tariff Changes
Since taking office on 20 January 2025, President Trump introduced wide-ranging tariffs on goods imported into the US, including from the UK. Tariffs are taxes on imports, which are paid by the importing business/customer in the country where they apply.
From 5 April 2025, a 10% baseline tariff on imports from the UK, affecting most goods, including our Eleven golf clubs, accessories, clothing etc. will be in effect. In conjunction with the introduction of new tariffs, the US Government is also doing away with their $800 de minimis exemption on imports for non-domestic goods, imported from the UK and other countries starting August 29, 2025.
The US’ de minimis rule referred to a customs threshold below which imported goods were exempt from duties, taxes, and formal customs procedures. Currently, the US’ de minimis value is $800, one of the highest in the world. This exemption allows for easier and cheaper cross-border shopping for low-value items. However, this has is now formally planned to be removed on August 29, 2025.
What This Means for US Customers
The new ruling introduced by the US Government will mean that all Eleven Golf products will now incur a 10% tariff, the 4.4% duty on UK golf clubs, and US customers will have to pay their State’s the sales tax on top of this, upon receipt of goods.
This will mean that goods that could have been purchased for less than $800 before August 29, 2025, will be 14.4% more expensive, and the sales tax will now be applicable, whereas it was not before.
Example
A $500 purchase would have originally cost $500, plus shipping. In the new scenario, this will now cost $500, plus the newly incurred 4.4% duty rate of $22, and a 10% tariff of $50, totalling $572, plus your state’s sales tax.
In this example, we’ll take New York’s sales tax of 4%. This would then be an additional 4% charged upon the new value of goods at $572, which would be an additional $22.88. The total cost of this example transaction would be $594.88, plus shipping.
How Will Eleven Golf Help?
Eleven Golf is a small, family-operated business, with strong ties to, and a love of the US, and everything it has to offer.
Unfortunately, we are unable to absorb all of these new tariff and duty costs, BUT we do want to help.
The UK and the US have always had a special relationship, and we want that to continue, so we will continue to offer our clubs to our all of our US customers.
What Eleven Golf has elected to do, is charge YOU, the customer, the 10% duty tariff upfront, and then once shipped with our international courier, FedEx, WE will have ALL the applicable duties, taxes, and tariffs billed back to ourselves. This means that when your clubs land in the US, there should not be any customs delay or additional fees to pay.
In effect, YOU will pay the 10% tariff, and then WE, Eleven Golf will absorb the 4.4% duty fee and state tax, as well as any clearance fees that might apply.
Whilst we appreciate this is not the ideal scenario for anyone, we want to continue offering our products in the US, and giving golfers the opportunity to make the game easier, and start enjoying golf again.
